Genesis 37
Joseph’s Dreams
Jacob lived in the land where his father had stayed in Canaan.
Jacob’s family line is listed.
Joseph age 17 was tending the flocks with his brothers, Bilhah and sons of Zilpah.
Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons because he was born in his old age.
Israel made an ornate robe for Joseph.
Israel sons saw Joseph was loved more than all his sons.
Joseph’s brothers hated him and would not speak kindly to Joseph.
Joseph had a dream and told his brothers the details; they all hated Joseph.
Joseph’s brothers said, “Do you expect to reign over us?”
Joseph’s father rebuked Joseph for the dream. “Do you expect us to bow down to you?”
Joseph Sold by His Brothers
Israel sent Joseph to graze the flocks with his brothers.
Joseph was told his brothers were in Dothan.
Joseph’s brothers saw him and plotted to kill him.
Joseph reached his brothers and Reuben said, “Let’s not shed any blood.”
Joseph’s brothers stripped Joseph of his robe and threw him into the cistern.
Joseph’s brothers decided to sell Joseph. They pulled him out and sold him for 20 shekels.
Reuben went searching for Joseph and tore his clothes, “Where is the boy?” He is not here.
Joseph’s brothers slaughtered a goat and dipped the robe in the blood.
Joseph’s brothers returned to their father and showed him, “It is your son’s robe.”
Joseph’s brothers said, “Joseph was torn by a ferocious animal and torn into pieces.”
Israel tore his robe, put sackcloth on; he refused to be comforted.
Midianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, the captain of the guard.
